TWO INTERPRETATIONS OF A SHARED HERITAGE

Baume & Mercier’s appointment as Official Timekeeper of the 2026 Gran Premio Storico d’Italia brings together two worlds shaped by the same pursuit: mastering time with precision while preserving the emotion of heritage. Organized by HVM Racing in collaboration with Ferrari Corse Clienti, the event will gather iconic cars, legendary drivers, collectors and enthusiasts at Mugello. With the Riviera 10897 and Classima 10898, that dialogue takes on a tangible form — two distinct interpretations of the partnership, each reflecting a different expression of the Gran Premio Storico d’Italia.

RIVIERA 10897 — RACING SPIRIT, SCULPTED IN STEEL

The Riviera 10897 captures the energy of the circuit through the collection’s signature dodecagonal architecture. The 41 mm stainless-steel case alternates polished and satin-finished surfaces around an opaline white dial, where green snailed counters meets vivid red chronograph hands: a graphic composition that echoes the colours of the Gran Premio Storico d’Italia. The “Official Timekeeper GPSI” marking on the dial anchors the watch to the partnership, while the personalized sapphire case back reveals both the event identity and the mechanical heart beneath it.

At its heart is the automatic Valjoux 7753, beating at 4 Hz and offering a 48-hour power reserve. Chronograph indications, small seconds and date give the Riviera its functional rhythm, while Super-LumiNova® details ensure clarity in low light. An integrated black rubber strap with canvas decor completes its purposeful silhouette. Water-resistant to 100 metres (approximately 10 ATM), the watch is equipped with Baume & Mercier’s fast strap interchangeability system for tool-free changes.

CLASSIMA 10898 — ELEGANCE WITH A RACING ACCENT

The Classima 10898 expresses the spirit of the Gran Premio Storico d’Italia through subtlety and detail. Its slender 42 mm polished stainless-steel case, measuring just 6.2 mm in thickness, frames a black sunray satin-finished dial. Roman numerals and leaf hands preserve the collection’s classical codes, while a single red “60” on the minute track introduces an unexpected motorsport note.

The connection continues beyond the dial. A personalized case back bears the Gran Premio Storico d’Italia, while the black calfskin strap, finished with a carbon effect, red edges and red stitching, introduces a subtle reference to the materials and colours of racing. Powered by a quartz movement and water-resistant to 50 metres, the Classima is fitted with interchangeable bars for effortless, tool-free strap changes.

Actress and television presenter, Mariasole Pollio was born in Naples in 2003 and moved to Milan upon turning eighteen. From a very young age, she attended acting and diction courses, starting with a theater-play workshop and then continuing her studies in film schools in her hometown. In 2017, at just thirteen years old, she debuted as an actress first on television and then on the big screen, gaining strong acclaim from both the public and critics and immediately distinguishing herself with a rare mix of vibrant energy and reflective maturity. In 2018, she began her career as a presenter, taking on increasingly prominent roles and responsibilities in the following years. With the Riviera 73, Baume & Mercier reinterprets the aesthetic spirit of the first generation of the Riviera launched in 1973. Since its launch, this model stood out for its unique silhouette and a design approach that blends modernity and elegance. Its dodecagonal case - the collection’s signature - introduced a bold geometry to the watchmaking world of the time, while its balanced proportions and understated lines asserted a style that is both timeless and distinctive. Riviera 73 carries forward the style of the collection, reinterpreting its founding codes in a contemporary way while remaining faithful to its original spirit.

The Riviera 73 M0A10844, M0A10845 and M0A10845 models, featuring a 39 mm diameter, are powered by a quartz movement. Their 7.7m thickness emphasises its harmonious proportions, and the dodecagonal bezel without visible screwsalong with wide dial opening showcase the elegance of its shape. On the case back, each model features the engraving “73” among vertical stripes, evoking the deck of a boat, and a typography inspired by the 1970s, a discreet signature that echoes the collection’s origins.

The history of the Riviera collection

Created in 1973, the Riviera collection stands out for its bold, innovative style, as one of the first steel sport chic watches. It was memorable from its launch, with its dodecagonal case and metal flat-link strap;style elements that laid the foundations of an original, immediately recognizable watch identity. The first generation was launched in quartz, and it quickly became available in a self-winding version, asserting the care brought to both design and technical achievement.

The second generation, released in 1980, introduced bicolor versions and the first appearance of the name ‘Riviera’ on the dial. In 1983, the collection stood out for its ultra-thin quartz movement with a thickness of just 2.5 mm and unprecedented complications such as a split-seconds, a perpetual calendar, and a second time zone. The third generation, launched in 1985, featured softened edges on the case and strap, played on polished and satin finishes, and incorporated a miniaturized crown for better water-tightness. The fourth generation, presented in 2004, included two distinct styles: a classic model and a sporty one, recognisable by its bezel equipped with four screws.

In 2021, the fifth generation affirmed the modernity of the Riviera with feminine 36 mm models and masculine 42 mm ones, some equipped with the Baumatic movement, others by a self-winding movement, featuring a dial adorned with a mountain-and-wave pattern. The collection was then extended to 39 mm self-winding and Baumatic models, as well as women’s 33 mm timepieces equipped with self-winding and quartz movements. Lastly, in 2025, the collection was completed by 41 mm chronographs, confirming the precision and unique style of the Riviera.

Today, the Riviera 73 continues to write history with a new expression of the Riviera design, inspired by the aesthetic codes of the first generation.

The history of Baume & Mercier

The long history that links Baume & Mercier to women began in 1918 when the aesthete Paul Mercier joined forces with the pragmatic William Baume. They pertinently observed the emancipation of women emerging at the time. These women were showing a clear interest in watches, and they were intent on more than telling the time. The Maison began creating ladies’ timepieces that were remarkable for their beauty and creativity, including sensational jewelry watches that were seen as jewels. In fact, those designs were featured in the 1920 Davoine General Indicator of Watchmaking, which praises the “haute Fantaisie pour Dames” (or “high fantasy for women”) of Baume & Mercier.

Early on, Baume & Mercier highlighted the strong, active, independent modern woman determined to break away from codes and conventions while maintaining her femininity. In fact, she was portrayed as a doctor in a 1950s advertisement. The 1970s, 1980s and 1990s inspired spectacular gold jewelry pieces, including cuff watches adorned with mother-of-pearl, onyx, lapis lazuli, and turquoise.

A timepiece dedicated to festivities

The Chinese New Year will begin on Tuesday, February 17, 2026. Baume & Mercier celebrates the sharing spirit of this occasion which inspired the House to create an exclusive edition of the Clifton collection. The Fire Horse – this year’s zodiac sign – is brought to life through a thoughtful pursuit of design and technical excellence, driven by the self-winding Baumatic Manufacture movement and a chronometer certified by the COSC (Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute). This high-performance, spirited timepiece will delight the gentleman apprised of aesthetic refinement for whom the collection is destined.

The Clifton 10839, released in a limited edition of just 100, will be made available at the end of November.

The Year of the Fire Horse and the Baume & Mercier spirit of design

The seventh of the twelve Chinese zodiac signs, the horse of the 2026 New Year has fire as its element. Its association with the sun helps bring out the full power of the boundless energy and freedom that characterize this majestic, noble animal.

The new Clifton 10839 expresses this vitality through the meticulous crafting of the dial. The date aperture at 6 o’clock is enlarged to display the date both in Arabic numerals and Chinese characters, and to represent the even-numbered dates with images of a dashing horse (as the Middle Kingdom favors even numbers and dates). Each figure is shown in a different position so that, if the disk were to spin rapidly, it would create the illusion of a single galloping horse. This elegant, sought-after design subtly echoes the idea of boldness and fiery momentum.

The case back is also adorned with a galloping stallion. The golden transfer silhouette appears to burst through the protective sapphire crystal, which is fastened with four screws and may be custom-engraved. The Riviera 10796 is a radiant 33 mm quartz timepiece distinguished by its refined femininity and architectural presence. Its dodecagonal bezel is set with 44 diamonds of three different sizes, meticulously selected to follow the unique geometry of the iconic twelve-sided shape. The watch features a warm silver-toned dial with remarkable luminosity, enhanced by the transparent wave-pattern décor. Riviera 10828
